Discolorations

Discoloration has always been a big problem, but it has decreased in recent years. Visible only on light colors, even though they are just as present on black latex....

Latex is a protein molecule and is not dense. This means that water, but also sweat and oil penetrate the material.

In the past, mainly talcum or baby powder was used as a dressing aid, but today it is mostly silicone oil.

The oil not only makes the surface slippery and polished, the oil also seals and protects the latex.

As a result, the discolorations have greatly decreased and are also no longer as serious as before. But unfortunately it happens again and again :-(

What is the cause?

It is not possible to say exactly, at least not in general. Non-ferrous metal is suspected, i.e. copper, brass, etc., but if you try it on a leftover piece, the discoloration is rather weak and hardly visible. Demonstration effect?

Often it is also the combination, the amalgamation of unfortunate circumstances. It can be an evaporation from another piece of clothing, traces of an acid from a hand cream and many other things.

The cause can often only be speculated, unfortunately.

Another reason for discoloration with a good possibility of reproduction is nicotine and tar residues from smoking. You don't even have to be a smoker, it's enough if someone else spreads tar residues on furniture, door handles etc..

What can you do?

Unfortunately very little, wash and de-oil well, powder thickly and wait. Just no operational hectic. The silver lining is that discoloration weakens with time.

Especially the light colors are often avoided for this reason, but even white latex becomes a little darker in the area towards cream, the discolorations from earlier times are no longer so frequent, it just smoke a lot less people and the party locations are no longer so contaminated.
